Hertford, UK – 16th March 2021 – It’s been a year since Rubber Heart’s first event visit, last domestic and international event (all in the space of two months!) and we were saddened to see that Tire Tech Expo and DTK 2021 planned for the summer have understandably been postponed. However, it’s good news to see the Call for Abstracts for Rubber Division, ACS IEC 2021 Technical Meeting & Annual Student Symposium. This great international event will be held from 5th – 7th October 2021 in Pittsburgh, a fantastic and vibrant city and will be the first large gathering for our industry for what feels like a very long time.
To celebrating it being the 200th(!) Technical Meeting, additional special “Frontiers” symposia have been organised to address the past, present and future of key areas in rubber science. Make sure you get your submission in by 3rd May 2021 for them to be considered for the programme – you can find out all the details here.
The RD team have put in so much work to organise a safe Spring Meeting that will be held from 27th – 29th April in Independence, Ohio and it looks an impressive programme with some eminent speakers so do take a look, this is will be a full hybrid event, meaning you can view all presentations live online. Presentations will also be available after the meeting for on demand viewing.

Following the enormous success of RDs women’s events at the past two IECs, a new online series – WORD Conversations – begins on 24th March featuring the first ever woman Goodyear Medallist Dr Judit Puskas sharing her story. Terry DeLapa – the first Woman Chair of Rubber Division, ACS – will be the featured guest at the second in the series on 26th May 2021. The one-hour events will also include breakout room sessions for networking a Q&A so do sign up (it’s free) and be part of the conversation!

It was announced early this year that ACE has been appointed Wallace Instruments North American sales, calibration and service partner. Wallace is one of the world’s most recognisable and trusted names in rubber testing equipment and has also reported a promising start to 2021 with news expected on a new product launch in the spring. Wallace equipment is designed and manufactured in the UK by Tenon Engineering, an end-to-end precision manufacturing company specialising in complex electromechanical assemblies. It is taking part in the Engineering Design Show: Reconnect from 31st March – 1st April 2021, the UK’s only virtual event entirely dedicated to engineering, electronics and embedded design which is free to attend.
Sharing knowledge to drive innovation! There are some excellent webinars, online meetings and training being offered at the moment where much larger audiences are able to hear from real industry experts on a myriad of relevant topics and latest research findings.
Endurica’s Winning on Durability webinar series is proving to be very popular and the next one ‘Users Spotlights’ takes place on Friday 19th March 2021. In this hour-long presentation, two companies will be sharing their experiences of using Endurica solutions for real life applications – the durability analysis of an automotive bushing and the enhancement of fatigue life of inflatable seals in demanding environments. The next Endurica online master class ‘Viscoelastic Effects in Elastomers and Impact on Durability’ takes place 23rd – 24th March 2021 and will cover how to use DMA data to manage heat build-up and durability. The course was developed in response to requests for a specialized training workshop to benefit materials engineers, compounders, rubber chemists, product development engineers, R&D scientists, and rubber lab managers at manufacturers of tyres and rubber parts and companies that supply raw materials.
It’s a year ago since the last IOM3 Rubber in Engineering Group live meeting in Oxford and moving these technical discussions and presentations to online events has attracted a much wider audience with hundreds of attendees from all over the world. Don’t miss the next one on Friday 19th March 2021 ‘Elastomer Use in Sustainable Energy Generation’ with five fantastic speakers and Q&A after each presentation.
